Gofran Tariq غفران طارق محمد
We first met artist Gofran Tariq during her print residency in the renowned Misk Art Institute. The young Saudi-Sudanese artist is a recent graduate of Riyadh’s Prince Sultan University, and is rapidly gaining attention for her sensitive and delicate subject matter.
Tariq’s photographic subject reflects the two cultures that are central to her own identity – Sudanese and Saudi. Using studio photography at the centre of her most recent project, she draws out the traditional identifiers that compliment her own place in society. As two cultural identities are woven together, a celebration of the generations of Sudanese people in Saudi Arabia is highlighted. This project spotlights a community that is deeply embedded in Saudi Arabia. While an emotive use of colour and texture symbolise the cultures in dialogue.
